Blast Furnace – Lithgow

Congratulations to Lithgow on receiving the recent grant to allow an upgrade their blast furnace. Lithgow and this Blast Furnace record the beginning of the iron and steel industry in Australia. The furnace was established in 1886 by William Sandford and operated until 1928 when production was moved to Port Kembla. The site has now been converted into a park around the remains of the pump house and the furnace foundations. There is a pleasant walk around Lake Pillans Wetland adjacent to the park (information courtesy http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/heritageapp/visit/ViewAttractionDetail.aspx?ID=5045094

Excellent example of Victorian era stone railway station. Trains still pass through station but station itself in poor repair. Excellent location to convey desolation, harsh reality in say an industrial town. Signal bos still contains all levers. Overhead bridge provides a good shooting vantage point.

Small Town. Portland

19th and 20thC townscape of Portland. Portland provides filmmakers with a highly photogenic main street which runs to a high hill. The vantage point from the hill provides an excellent overview of the main shops and over the town. The main street features many well conserved late 19th and early 20th C shopfronts. Portland is an old industrial town. Good examples of early 20thC architecture, wide streets, workers cottages, old mine buildings. The nearby cement works (now disused) also feature excellent examples of late 19th C factories in very good external order. Town is ideal for a theme of working class or industry.

Clarence Station is the main railway station for Zig Zag Railway. The famous Zig Zag Railway offers many opportunities to filmmakers. Steam and diesel locomotives plus a range of rolling stock available for charter. Line passes through spectacular mountain areas and over a large trestle bridge.

Disused works building. Excellent large industrial reminiscent of late 19thC UK. Previously was cement works. Many opportunities for thriller/adventure or hard times themes. Ample parking for large production vehicles.
