The vantage point from the hill provides an excellent overview of the main shops and over the town. The main street features many well conserved late 19th and early 20th C shopfronts. Portland is an old industrial town. Good examples of early 20thC architecture, wide streets, workers cottages, old mine buildings. The nearby cement works (now disused) also feature excellent examples of late 19th C factories in very good external order. Town is ideal for a theme of working class or industry.
